Active Shooter Incident Shakes Midtown Manhattan; Multiple Victims Reported

Manhattan, NY —  A heavily armed suspect opened fire in Midtown Manhattan on Monday, injuring multiple people — including at least one NYPD officer — before reportedly taking his own life, according to authorities.

The New York Police Department confirmed they responded to a call of shots fired at 345 Park Avenue, a major high-rise office tower that houses major firms such as Blackstone, KPMG, J.P. Morgan, and the NFL. The incident unfolded near East 52nd Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue, prompting a full-scale emergency lockdown in the area.

Witnesses and social media footage show chaos erupting as officers rushed toward the scene while terrified civilians fled for cover. A significant police presence remains on-site, with sirens wailing and streets cordoned off as authorities conduct their investigation.

Law enforcement sources say the suspect was reportedly wearing a bulletproof vest and may have been armed with an AR-15-style rifle. He allegedly entered the building and barricaded himself on the 32nd floor, though it’s still unclear where the initial shots were fired — inside or outside the premises.

Over 100 emergency calls were made as the situation escalated, with hundreds of people sheltering in place. A video circulating online shows NYPD officers performing chest compressions on a victim outside the building.

Federal agents, including the FBI, are assisting local authorities in securing the area. Officials are urging the public to avoid East 52nd Street between Park and Lexington Avenues while the investigation continues.

The situation is being treated as an isolated incident, though the motive remains unknown. Further updates are expected as law enforcement agencies release verified information.
