Montreal Worker Dies After Fall at School Construction Site, Second Fatal Workplace Incident in 24 Hours
Montreal – A tragic workplace accident claimed the life of a 31-year-old woman Tuesday morning in Montreal, marking the second fatal incident on a construction site in the region in less than a day.
The accident occurred just before 6:45 a.m. in the courtyard of Pensionnat Notre-Dame-des-Anges, a private elementary school situated on Rosemont Boulevard near Boulevard de l’Assomption, in the Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie borough.
The victim, a worker employed by the company tasked with roofing work on the school, reportedly fell several meters while ascending a ladder leading to the rooftop. She was found unresponsive and seriously injured when first responders arrived on scene.
Paramedics transported her to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Despite medical intervention, she later succumbed to her injuries. Her death was officially confirmed by authorities early Tuesday afternoon.
Inspectors from Quebec’s workplace safety board, the CNESST (Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail), were dispatched to the scene to investigate the circumstances leading to the fall. Other crew members present at the job site are also being interviewed as part of the ongoing inquiry.
This fatality comes on the heels of another deadly incident on Monday, when a 21-year-old worker was crushed by the arm of an excavator at a road construction project in Terrebonne.
Both incidents occurred just days after the construction sector resumed activity following Quebec’s annual construction holiday, raising renewed concerns about safety standards and preventive measures on job sites.
