A young man from Islay, Alberta, has died following a serious two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 16 and Highway 897 near Kitscoty on the morning of August 14.
According to the Kitscoty RCMP, emergency crews were called to the scene at approximately 8:18 a.m. after a collision between a transport truck and a sedan.
Preliminary findings indicate the semi-truck was traveling north, crossing Highway 16, when it collided with an eastbound sedan. The impact proved fatal for the 22-year-old driver of the car. His name has not yet been released.
The eastbound lanes of Highway 16 at the intersection remained closed for several hours as investigators examined the scene, reopening at around 1:30 p.m., said RCMP public information officer Cpl. Mathew Howell.
Police have expressed condolences to the victim’s family and friends and confirmed that the investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing.
