Kenzie Leonardo of New Richland, MN Dies at 11: NRHEG Schools Mourns Sixth Grader

New Richland, MinnesotaThe New Richland community in Minnesota is mourning the loss of Kenzie Mae Leonardo, an 11-year-old whose bright spirit and warm heart touched everyone she met. Kenzie passed away at her home on October 27, 2025, leaving behind a family, school, and community who adored her.

A proud sixth grader at NRHEG Schools, Kenzie was experiencing her best year yet, thriving academically and socially. She was a cherished member of her school’s volleyball team, known for her powerful serves, fearless dives, and boundless team spirit. Teachers and classmates alike recall her laughter echoing through hallways and her ability to bring joy into every interaction. “Kenzie had this way of making everyone feel seen and included,” said a friend’s parent.

Kenzie’s love extended beyond school. She adored her family, especially her cousins and younger siblings, showing a protective and caring nature that belied her young age. Family members fondly remember her cheerful greetings, her playful tomboy side, and her love for dancing in the rain, lake days, and spa afternoons with friends. She also had a sweet tooth for her great-grandmother’s famous chocolate oaties and a penchant for all things pink.

Known affectionately as “Kenzie Mae the Milkyway,” she balanced a lively, mischievous streak with tenderness and compassion. Her parents, Keith and Melisa Leonardo, alongside her brothers, grandparents, aunts, cousins, and beloved pets, will forever cherish her memory.

The local community is rallying around the family in support, with friends, classmates, and neighbors expressing condolences and sharing memories online and at school. “Kenzie’s laughter and energy left a mark on all of us,” said an NRHEG staff member.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland, MN, with Pastor Trish Reedstrom and Pastor Mary Iverson officiating. Visitation will take place from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by interment at St. Olaf Cemetery.

Though her life was heartbreakingly short, Kenzie’s light, love, and laughter will remain imprinted in the hearts of those who knew her, leaving a legacy of joy, kindness, and warmth that will continue to inspire her community.
