Amy Collinsworth: Highland Village and Lewisville ISD Mourns 2nd Grade Heritage Elementary School Teacher

The Highland Village and Lewisville Independent School District communities are mourning the loss of Amy Collinsworth, a deeply respected second-grade teacher at Heritage Elementary School, who passed away on November 1, 2025, after battling a malignant brain tumor. She was 54 years old, born on July 4, 1971, and remembered for her warmth, resilience, and lifelong commitment to education.

The announcement of her death was shared through heartfelt Facebook posts by the Heritage Hawks PTA and local parents. “It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved 2nd-grade teacher, Mrs. Amy Collinsworth,” the PTA wrote. “She was a cornerstone of the Highland Village community and cherished by many.”

The loss comes at an especially difficult time for Lewisville ISD, as staff and students continue to adjust to being split between two campuses following district transitions last year. Samantha Scheider, a fellow educator, expressed what many are feeling: “After the year our Viking family had, this feels extra hard to navigate. Amy’s spirit held our classrooms together.”

A Teacher Who Defined Compassion in Education

Known for her calm presence and student-first philosophy, Collinsworth embodied what many parents described as “the heart of Heritage.” Her classroom was a place of stability and joy, often filled with laughter and creative lessons that made learning feel personal. Parents recall how she celebrated small victories with her students, encouraging them to “shine bright, no matter what.”

In response to the emotional impact of her passing, the Lewisville ISD CARE Team—comprising counselors and social workers—will be on campus to support grieving students and staff in the days ahead. The district also reminded the public that, due to traffic and safety concerns, there will be no prayer circle at the school, urging the community to instead show support through grace and compassion.

A Legacy Beyond the Classroom

Amy Collinsworth’s life reflected the quiet heroism of teachers who shape futures one student at a time. Her passing highlights the emotional weight educators carry and the depth of their bonds with the communities they serve.

As tributes continue to pour in, one message shared online captures her enduring legacy:

“She taught us that kindness is the most powerful lesson of all.”

Her family, colleagues, and students now carry that lesson forward—proof that her influence, like her spirit, will never fade.
