Chuck Potthast, “90 Day Fiancé” Star Dies at 64 Of Cancer: Leaving Fans and Family in Mourning

The reality television community is mourning the death of Chuck Potthast, a familiar face from season five of 90 Day Fiancé. Potthast, father of cast member Elizabeth “Libby” Castravet, died at the age of 64 following a two-year battle with glioblastoma—a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer.

Elizabeth and her husband Andrei Castravet announced the news in a joint Instagram post on November 23, describing the loss as “completely shattering.” In her message, she remembered her father as “sweet, loving, and caring,” and asked the public to respect the family’s privacy during their period of grief.

Potthast became a memorable figure within the 90 Day Fiancé franchise not only for his onscreen appearances but also for his role as a stabilizing presence amid the show’s many family dynamics. Off camera, he operated CMP Capital Investments, a property rental and home-flipping business, and was a father to seven children shared with his ex-wife Pamela.

His daughter Becky also shared a heartfelt tribute, calling her father’s passing “a pain more than I can bear.” Her message echoed the emotional responses seen across social media, where fans and castmates have expressed condolences and gratitude for Potthast’s openness about his cancer journey.

Glioblastoma affects more than 12,000 Americans each year, according to the American Brain Tumor Association, and remains one of the most difficult cancers to treat. Potthast had documented parts of his treatment, including a complicated hernia surgery in September that stemmed from earlier medical procedures.

As the 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? community comes to terms with his loss, many say Potthast’s legacy will endure in the stories he helped tell and the family he leaves behind.
