Anthony Head and Longtime Partner Sarah Fisher Remembered After Passing Months Apart

The deaths of actor Anthony Head and his longtime partner Sarah Fisher have left family, friends, and fans mourning the loss of a couple whose relationship spanned more than four decades.

Head, best known for portraying Rupert Giles in the cult television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, reportedly died Friday at the age of 72 from complications related to pneumonia. His passing comes just months after Fisher’s sudden death on January 1 at age 61.

Their daughters, actresses Emily Head and Daisy Head, announced Fisher’s passing in a heartfelt statement shared on social media earlier this year.

“We are so sorry to have to share the news that our extraordinary, kind and talented mother, Sarah, passed away recently,” they wrote, describing her death as “immensely shocking” and one that came with “very little warning.”

For more than 40 years, Head and Fisher built a life together in Bath, England, where Fisher devoted much of her time to animal welfare. She operated Tilley Farm, a sanctuary dedicated to rescuing and caring for horses, ponies, and donkeys, earning admiration from the local community and animal-rights advocates alike.

Although the couple never formally married, Head frequently spoke of Fisher as his life partner and credited her with shaping both his personal and professional journey. In a 2018 interview with The Daily Telegraph, he explained that marriage simply was not something Fisher desired, though he considered their bond every bit as meaningful.

Their relationship began in the early 1980s after meeting backstage at London’s National Theatre. Head later recalled being captivated by Fisher from the moment he first saw her, eventually finding reasons to arrive early so he could spend time talking with her before performances.

Head also acknowledged Fisher’s crucial support during difficult periods early in his acting career. When professional setbacks left him questioning his future, he said Fisher encouraged him to persevere and continue pursuing acting opportunities—a decision that helped pave the way for his eventual success.

That success included memorable roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Merlin, and Little Britain, making Head one of Britain’s most recognizable television actors. Despite his career achievements, he consistently emphasized the importance of family, even reducing his role on Buffy to spend more time with loved ones in the United Kingdom.

Together, Head and Fisher raised two daughters who followed their parents into the entertainment industry. Their family’s close-knit bond remained evident through public appearances and collaborative acting projects over the years.

Their passing, only months apart, marks the end of a remarkable partnership defined by devotion, resilience, and enduring love.
