Accident: Car Falls Into Ravine on Route de la Gineste in Cassis: Four Injured, Road Closed

Cassis (Bouches-du-Rhône)— A serious traffic incident occurred early Wednesday morning on the Route de la Gineste (D559) in Cassis, where a car veered off the road and plunged into a ravine.

According to the Bouches-du-Rhône fire department, four young individuals were slightly injured in the accident. Emergency response teams, comprising around 30 firefighters and 15 vehicles, were dispatched to the scene to carry out the rescue.

Rescue operations involved ground teams and two helicopters, which helped secure and evacuate the victims. All four injured individuals were taken into care with minor injuries.

The crash caused major traffic disruptions, as the D559 was temporarily closed in the direction of Marseille from Cassis to allow emergency services to safely intervene.

Authorities have not yet released the cause of the accident. Investigations are likely to follow to determine the circumstances leading to the car’s fall.

The Route de la Gineste, known for its scenic views but also for sharp turns and elevation changes, has seen accidents in the past, raising ongoing safety concerns.

Motorists are advised to remain cautious, especially when traveling through winding mountain roads such as the Gineste.
