According to the Georgia State Patrol, the wreck occurred around 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Georgia Highway 31 and Springhaven Road. Investigators determined that the driver of the Chevrolet Colorado failed to stop and struck the side of a flatbed trailer being pulled by a 1995 Peterbilt. The impact caused the pickup to rotate into other lanes, where it then struck the front of a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro. Highway 31 was closed for more than two hours while first responders investigated and cleared the scene.
Jenkins, a native of Gray in Jones County, had just begun her college career as a member of the Lady Barons softball team. Jones County High School remembered her as a “classmate, softball teammate, friend, and forever a Greyhound.” Brewton-Parker Christian University stated that her death “is deeply felt across campus” and asked the community for thoughts and prayers for her family, friends, teammates, and classmates. The university added that in times when words feel inadequate, they find comfort and hope in faith.
Before college, Jenkins competed with Georgia Impact 08 Pritchett, where coaches and teammates recalled her as a talented athlete and one of the finest teammates a coach could ask for—known for her kindness, faith, and dedication to the game.
