Barcelona — A 19-year-old architecture student from the Catalan city of Vic died Tuesday after a motorcycle collided with a truck in Barcelona’s Les Corts district, near the Camp Nou stadium. Anna Vilaregut Costa was the driver of the motorcycle involved in the crash at the intersection of Travessera de les Corts and Gran Via de Carles III around 1:15 p.m. on October 13.
Emergency services, including the Catalan Sistema d’Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) and Barcelona’s Guàrdia Urbana, responded quickly to the scene. Vilaregut Costa was rushed in critical condition to Hospital Clínic, where she later succumbed to her injuries. A female passenger on the motorcycle was also injured and taken to Hospital Vall d’Hebron in serious condition. The circumstances of the collision remain under investigation.
Vilaregut Costa was a student at the School of Architecture of La Salle – Universitat Ramon Llull in Barcelona. In a statement released Wednesday, the university community expressed deep sorrow over her death. “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Anna Vilaregut Costa, an Architecture student, following a traffic accident that took place yesterday, 13 October, in Barcelona,” the university said. Officials extended condolences to her family, friends, classmates, and faculty, offering prayers and support during this difficult time.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Vilaregut Costa was an active roller skater with Club Patinatge Osona (CP Osona), based in the Osona region that includes her hometown of Vic. The Federació Catalana de Patinatge issued a statement mourning the loss of one of its athletes and offering sincere condolences to her family, friends, and the entire CP Osona community.
Barcelona city officials also conveyed their sympathy to the victim’s loved ones while reaffirming the city’s commitment to reducing traffic accidents. The tragedy has cast a shadow over both the university and the local skating community in Vic and the broader Osona area.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been publicly announced. The investigation into the collision continues as authorities work to determine the precise causes of the crash that cut short a young life full of academic and athletic promise.
