A heartbreaking accident in northeast Houston has claimed the life of a 2-year-old girl after she was accidentally struck by a vehicle driven by her father, authorities confirmed Tuesday.
The incident occurred in the 3800 block of Turner Drive, near Tidwell Road and the Eastex Freeway. According to Houston police, the toddler managed to leave the house unnoticed when her father returned home from work. The child’s mother had been supervising other children at the time.
While moving vehicles in the driveway, the father was reportedly unaware his daughter had exited the home and was behind the truck. As he backed up, he tragically struck the child.
Emergency responders arrived quickly and attempted life-saving measures, but the young girl was pronounced dead in the ambulance.
Houston police confirmed that the father remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. There were no indications of impairment, and police have described the incident as a devastating accident.
Authorities with the department’s Northeast Patrol and Vehicular Crimes Division are continuing to investigate.
