M6 Southbound Closed After Major Crash Leaves Eight Injured — Including Child

Preston – Chaos erupted on the M6 motorway Monday morning following a serious multi-vehicle collision that left eight people injured — five of them seriously, including a child.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:27 a.m. on the southbound carriageway between junctions 32 and 33, near Preston in Lancashire. Emergency services, including police, paramedics, and fire crews, responded swiftly to the scene.

Lancashire Police have confirmed that the motorway remains closed between the affected junctions while investigations and recovery operations are underway. The nearby A6 junction is also shut, with authorities warning that closures will remain in place “for some time.”

“All emergency services are in attendance and we’re asking drivers to avoid the area,” a police spokesperson said. “Significant delays are expected while we investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.”

According to early reports, eight people were transported to hospital for treatment. Five sustained serious injuries, and one of the victims is believed to be a child. Further details on their conditions have not yet been released.

Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes, with National Highways urging drivers to monitor traffic updates and follow diversions where available.

The incident has caused widespread disruption to Monday morning travel, with long tailbacks forming in both directions. Drivers stuck in the closure zone are being supported by highway teams on site.

Further updates are expected as the investigation develops.
