Crane Accident Claimed the life of 37, Paul Alphonsus Ledwell Jr: South Shore Community, Family and Friends Mourns Construction Professional

Everett, Massachusetts – The South Shore community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Paul Alphonsus Ledwell Jr., a 37-year-old construction professional who tragically lost his life in a crane accident in Everett, Massachusetts on October 24, 2025.

Ledwell’s family described him as a devoted father, son, brother, and friend whose “love for his boys was endless and unwavering.” Known for his warmth, work ethic, and generous heart, Paul’s passing has left a deep void in both his family and the tight-knit community of tradespeople he worked alongside.

Born on January 8, 1988, in Massachusetts, Ledwell grew up in Pembroke and graduated from Silver Lake Regional High School in 2006. Following in his father’s footsteps, he joined the New York Local 1556 Pile Drivers and Dock Builders Union before earning a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management from Wentworth Institute of Technology in 2010. He later became a member of Boston Local 56, where he was widely respected for his professionalism and leadership on marine and heavy construction projects.

“Paul’s warm smile could light up any room,” his sister Darcy Kennedy shared. “He was the rock for so many — generous, kind, and always putting others before himself.”

Ledwell was also remembered as a loving father to his two sons, Paul (12) and Vincent (8), who were, in his family’s words, “the absolute light of his life.” Whether fishing, exploring outdoors, or cheering them on at sports games, he found joy in every shared moment.

His passions extended beyond work and family — Paul was an avid fisherman, animal lover, and outdoorsman who cherished simple moments with loved ones. “He would have moved mountains to make others happy,” a close friend said.

Ledwell’s passing comes amid renewed scrutiny over construction safety practices following the Everett crane collapse that also claimed the life of another worker. Federal investigators from OSHA continue to examine the cause of the mechanical failure that led to the tragic incident.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday, November 2, from 3–7 p.m. at Shepherd Funeral Home in Kingston. A funeral Mass will take place on Monday, November 3, at St. Joseph’s Church, followed by interment at Center Cemetery in Pembroke.

Paul Alphonsus Ledwell Jr. will be remembered not only for his skill and dedication to his craft, but for his compassion, humility, and unwavering love for his family — a legacy that will live on in every life he touched.
