Carney, Co. Sligo – Michael Carr, who died peacefully on July 21, 2025, in the care of the compassionate team at The North West Hospice, surrounded by those who loved him most. Originally from Mountcharles and Bruckless, Michael was deeply rooted in the values of rural Ireland—humility, service, and family.
A Life Grounded in Place and Principle
Michael’s journey began in the scenic coastal villages of Mountcharles and Bruckless, where he was raised alongside his siblings in a home where respect, resilience, and quiet determination were guiding principles. These early years shaped the man he became—principled, generous, and deeply connected to the land and the people around him.
Cherished Roles as Father, Grandfather, and Partner
Michael was predeceased by his brothers Paddy, James, and Peter, and sisters Bridie and Molly, all of whom held a lasting presence in his memory. He leaves behind a close-knit family: sons Alan (with wife Jackie) and Eugene (with wife Patricia), and his daughter Brenda, who lost her husband Brendan before her father’s passing.
He was a proud grandfather to Conor, Pauric, Michael, Freda, Brenda, Cahir, Aisling, Oisin, and Soracha, each of whom carry forward pieces of his legacy. His partner Anne, her family, extended relatives, neighbours, and a wide circle of friends are left to grieve a man known for his warmth, steadiness, and quiet wit.
A Man of Few Words but Meaningful Deeds
Michael wasn’t one for fanfare. Those who knew him best describe a man who led by example—dependable, generous, and unfailingly present. Whether he was tending to a small repair at a neighbour’s home, encouraging a grandchild on the football pitch, or quietly supporting a struggling friend, his actions spoke volumes.
His contributions weren’t documented in headlines, but in the hearts of those he helped. He didn’t seek attention; he earned respect.

Legacy Through Generations
Michael’s passing marks the close of a life lived with honesty, loyalty, and integrity. His legacy is visible in the way his children lead their lives, in the love his grandchildren carry forward, and in the quiet, unseen ways he supported his community over the years.
The places that defined him—Carney, Bruckless, and Mountcharles—now hold his memory in every field he walked and every story retold. His was a life of intention, not spectacle. And in that simplicity, there was greatness.
Community in Mourning, Community in Tribute
Across Carney and beyond, friends, neighbours, and family are gathering not just in grief but in gratitude. They come to honour a man who, in both big and small ways, held up the lives of others without ever asking for praise.
The silence left behind is not just absence—it is a space filled with memory, with love, and with the unmistakable imprint of a life deeply lived.
Michael Carr’s death is more than the loss of one man; it is a moment of collective reflection on a life of purpose, rooted in love and community. May he rest in peace, and may those who loved him continue to live in the light of his example.
