Shane Spillane, 26, Fatal Brockton Crash: Braintree Community Mourns as Man Identified as Their Own, Leaving Three Seriously Injured – GofundMe

Brockton – A devastating early-morning crash in Brockton has left one man dead and three others seriously injured, prompting renewed concerns about late-night roadway safety in the city. The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office confirmed Friday that 26-year-old Shane Spillane of Braintree died from injuries sustained in the collision.

The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at the intersection of Centre Street and Quincy Street, a busy crossing known for fast-moving traffic in the overnight hours. According to investigators, a 2019 Infiniti Q50 carrying four occupants collided with a white box truck in the middle of the intersection. Surveillance footage shows the Infiniti striking the driver’s side of the truck with force, causing the truck to tip onto its side and the Infiniti to erupt in flames—trapping its occupants.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and used hydraulic rescue tools to free at least one victim. All occupants from both vehicles were transported to area hospitals. Three survivors—including one passenger now on life support—suffered serious injuries, authorities said.

A GoFundMe created to help Spillane’s family describes a household reeling from unimaginable loss. “Early this morning, the world became a bit quieter,” the family wrote. Spillane’s death comes eight years after the loss of his 31-year-old sister, a grief they say “no parent should ever have to suffer once—let alone twice.” Spillane leaves behind a twin brother and a younger sister.

Local residents say the crash highlights dangerous patterns on Brockton’s overnight roads. “People speed through that stretch all the time,” said a nearby shop owner, noting the intersection’s history of collisions.

Massachusetts State Police and Brockton Police are continuing their investigation, including reviewing surveillance footage and conducting witness interviews. No charges have yet been announced.

As the community mourns Spillane, family members hope the public will remember him not only for the tragic circumstances of his death, but for the “kind, loyal, and unforgettable” person they say he was.
