Dan Rivera, a respected paranormal investigator and prominent figure with the New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR), died unexpectedly on Sunday, July 13, at the age of 54. Rivera was in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, participating in the “Devils on the Run” tour, which featured the infamous Annabelle doll from the Warren Occult Museum.
According to reports from the Evening Sun and local police scanner records, emergency responders were called to Rivera’s hotel room, where CPR was performed. He was later pronounced dead. The Adams County coroner’s office has listed his cause of death as “pending.”
A U.S. Army veteran, Rivera was widely known for his captivating storytelling, deep expertise in paranormal phenomena, and unwavering dedication to educating the public about the supernatural. Just one day before his passing, he hosted a sold-out event in Gettysburg showcasing the Annabelle doll — the allegedly cursed Raggedy Ann doll made infamous by Ed and Lorraine Warren and later depicted in The Conjuring horror film universe.
Rivera’s final appearances, held over three consecutive days in Gettysburg, were all sold out, underscoring his significant influence within the paranormal community. An Evening Sun reporter who attended Saturday’s event described him as “full of charisma” and deeply engaging.
Throughout his career, Rivera was a recognizable face on paranormal television, including appearances on the Travel Channel’s Most Haunted Places, and served as a consulting producer on Netflix’s 28 Days Haunted. He had been personally mentored by the late Lorraine Warren, co-founder of NESPR, further cementing his legacy within the organization and the broader field.
The New England Society for Psychic Research confirmed his passing in a heartfelt public statement. Lead investigator Chris Gilloren wrote:
“It’s with deep sadness that Tony, Wade, and I share the sudden passing of our close friend and partner, Dan Rivera. We are heartbroken and still processing this loss. Dan truly believed in sharing his experiences and educating people on the paranormal. His kindness and passion touched everyone who knew him.”
Rivera is remembered not only for his paranormal expertise, but also for his warmth, humility, and dedication to helping others understand the unknown. His sudden passing leaves a void in the community he served so passionately.
