Ontario Mourns Emma Grace Black, 19, a Beloved Young Artist

Emma Grace Black, a vibrant and talented 19-year-old who passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025. Remembered for her sharp wit, creative spirit, and unwavering devotion to those she loved, Emma leaves behind a legacy that is both deeply personal and profoundly inspiring.

Emma was the beloved daughter of Jennifer Black and Dillon Black (Rachel King), and the cherished sister of Rachel, Sophie, Logan, and JJ. Her close-knit family, including grandparents Eric and Mary Benjamins, Vivienne Black, and Don and Jo-Ann Whiteford, fondly describe her as a “beautiful soul who brought warmth and laughter into every room.”

A Creative Spirit

Art was at the heart of Emma’s life. A gifted watercolour painter and illustrator, she often expressed her emotions and perspectives through her artwork, which family members say captured life’s quiet beauty.

“Emma had a way of making the simplest things feel meaningful. Whether it was a sketch or a sarcastic joke, she knew how to make us smile,” shared her aunt, Dominika Benjamins.

A Student, a Dreamer, and a Generous Heart

Emma was pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) at Fanshawe College, determined to build a promising future with quiet grace. Outside her studies, she loved gaming, listening to “emo metal” music, and enjoying peaceful moments with her siblings.

In her passing, Emma’s final act of generosity—organ donation—has already saved and transformed multiple lives.

“Emma’s generosity has given hope to families who were in despair. We know she lives on through this incredible gift,” said her father, Dillon Black.

Tributes and Community Support

The Critical Care Trauma Centre team at London Health Sciences Centre was praised by Emma’s family for their compassion and expertise. Special gratitude was expressed to nurses Nori, Brooke, Alexa, and Meaghan, as well as representatives from the Trillium Gift of Life Network, for guiding the organ donation process with care.

Tributes have poured in across social media, reflecting the many lives Emma touched. Her closest friend, Abby Lakoseljac, called her a “soul sister,” adding:

“Emma’s laughter and creativity will never fade from our hearts. She was one of a kind.”

Celebration of Life

Family and friends are invited to Forest Lawn Funeral Home, London, on Friday, August 1, 2025, for visitations from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 6:00–8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will follow on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Critical Care Trauma Centre at LHSC Victoria Hospital or the Trillium Gift of Life Network.
