St. John’s Man Charged With First-Degree Murder in Fatal Shooting of Terry Griffin
A man has been formally charged with first-degree murder following the fatal shooting of 30-year-old Terry Griffin in St. John’s last week. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) confirmed the charge against 48-year-old Corey Snook, who is scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon.
The fatal incident occurred Thursday morning at a residence on Salter Place, located in the city’s west end. According to police, Griffin was found with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers responding to the call around 10:40 a.m. quickly determined that the shooting was a targeted act of violence.
Following the discovery, the RNC issued a shelter-in-place advisory, urging residents near Gros Morne Place and Columbus Drive to remain indoors while they searched for the suspect. Snook was apprehended without incident around 12:30 p.m. the same day. Three other individuals who were temporarily detained at the scene were later released without charges.
Notably, Snook had already been facing charges in connection with an incident the day before the shooting. Court documents indicate he was accused of assaulting two individuals with a weapon and uttering threats. One of those alleged victims was Terry Griffin.
The timeline of events, combined with the nature of the prior charges, has added complexity to the investigation. Law enforcement officials are currently seeking surveillance or dashcam footage from the areas of Salter Place, Gros Morne Place, and Columbus Drive between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on the morning of the shooting, hoping it will provide crucial evidence.
While Snook awaits his court appearance on the murder charge, he is also scheduled for a bail hearing Tuesday morning related to the earlier assault and threats case.
The RNC continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing and urges anyone with information to come forward.
