Alan C. King Dartmouth, MA Obituary – Dartmouth Fire District 3 is mourning the passing of Firefighter and Paramedic Alan C. King, who died on June 25, 2025, after experiencing a medical emergency at his home on June 13. He remained in critical condition at St. Luke’s Hospital until his death. His loss marks the passing of a dedicated public servant whose contributions spanned more than two decades.

Alan King began his career in emergency services as an on-call firefighter with Dartmouth Fire District 3, a role he held for 15 years before being appointed as a career firefighter in 2016. His extensive experience and commitment to emergency medical services made him an essential part of the department’s growth. As a licensed paramedic, he played a key role in helping the fire district achieve a major milestone in 2009: becoming a licensed EMS provider, significantly strengthening the community’s emergency response capabilities.

In addition to his operational duties, King was an influential leader. He was elected the first President of the Dartmouth Permanent Firefighters District 3 Local 5156, where he worked tirelessly to advocate for his fellow firefighters’ needs and welfare. His leadership also extended into governance; he was elected to the district’s Prudential Committee in 2008.

During his nine-year tenure on the committee, King helped spearhead several vital projects, including the replacement of aging fire apparatus and the complete reconstruction of the district’s headquarters fire station. The upgraded facility provided modern living quarters and improved operational space for the department’s growing team—a testament to his vision and dedication.

Alan King’s service was defined by professionalism, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to public safety and community improvement. He earned widespread respect and admiration from colleagues, residents, and local officials alike.

Dartmouth Fire District 3 has expressed profound gratitude for Alan’s lifetime of service and acknowledged the lasting impact of his work on the department and the community he loved.

His loss is deeply felt by all who served alongside him. The Fire District extends heartfelt condolences to Alan’s wife, Lisa, and all who are grieving this profound loss. His legacy of leadership, service, and compassion will not be forgotten by those who had the honor of knowing him or being served by him.

Rest in peace, Alan C. King
