Fairfax County is reflecting on the life and legacy of Michael R. Frey, a respected public official whose decades of service helped shape local government and community priorities.
Frey dedicated 37 years to Fairfax County Government, including 24 years as a member of the Board of Supervisors. Pat Herrity, who once served alongside Frey, said he was both a mentor and a trusted advisor, adding that his institutional knowledge and commitment to residents were unmatched.
A defining part of Frey’s legacy is his advocacy for animal welfare. In 2016, the county renamed the Fairfax County Animal Shelter – Michael R. Frey Campus in his honor, recognizing his leadership in improving services and promoting humane policies.
