False Social Media Claims Target Family in Ongoing Search for Missing Tucson Woman Nancy

As the search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie continues, law enforcement officials are pushing back against a wave of misinformation circulating online.

In recent days, social media posts have claimed that Guthrie’s alleged niece was arrested during a February 13 SWAT operation near her home in Tucson. Some posts further attempted to connect the individual to others previously speculated about in the case. Authorities, however, say those claims are entirely false.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that no arrests were made during the February 13 raid and that the people being named online have no known ties to Guthrie’s disappearance. Federal investigators, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, remain involved, but officials stress that the case is still under active investigation with no confirmed suspects.

Guthrie was reported missing on January 31, sparking concern throughout her Tucson community. While details remain limited, authorities have urged the public to avoid sharing unverified claims that could complicate investigative efforts.

Criminal justice experts note that high-profile missing persons cases often attract online speculation, which can inadvertently harm families and distract from credible leads. “Accuracy matters, especially when emotions are running high,” one Arizona-based public safety consultant said.

Community members continue to support search efforts and await verified updates. For now, investigators emphasize a clear message: there have been no arrests, and rumors linking relatives to the case are unsupported.
