Midtown Manhattan Shooting Leaves Four Dead, Including Off-Duty NYPD Officer
A deadly shooting in the heart of Midtown Manhattan claimed the lives of four people Monday evening, including an off-duty NYPD officer working private security at a major office tower on Park Avenue.
The incident occurred at 345 Park Avenue, a commercial high-rise that houses the corporate offices of the National Football League and Blackstone. The location, just blocks from Grand Central Station and the Museum of Modern Art, was flooded with law enforcement within minutes of the first reports.
According to preliminary information from law enforcement officials, the suspected shooter has been identified as a 27-year-old man from Las Vegas. Authorities believe he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Surveillance footage reportedly shows the suspect exiting his vehicle alone before entering the building. Sources say he held a concealed carry permit and previously had a private investigator license, which had expired.
One of the victims, an off-duty NYPD officer assigned to a private security post inside the building, was shot in the back. Three additional victims were also confirmed dead. Their identities have not been released as families are being notified.
Hundreds of officers responded to the scene, creating a heavy security presence that extended for several city blocks. NYPD officials were joined by federal agents, including teams from the FBI, who arrived shortly after to assist with the investigation. Deputy Director Dan Bongino confirmed the bureau’s involvement in a public statement.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed that the shooter acted alone, and authorities are continuing to piece together a motive. The area surrounding 345 Park Avenue was cordoned off for several hours as investigators examined the scene and secured the building.
The shooting has sent shockwaves through the city, particularly given its location in a bustling business district known for its tight security and corporate activity.
As the investigation unfolds, city officials are urging the public to remain vigilant and continue to avoid the area until further notice.
