The Burlington community is mourning the sudden passing of Joan Evans, a lifelong resident whose warmth and dedication touched generations. Joan passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the age of 71, leaving behind a legacy defined by family, friendship, and creativity.
Born and raised in Burlington, Joan was the daughter of John and Joyce Evans, and sister to Judi Evans and Butch Evans. She built a close-knit family anchored in love and laughter — a devoted mother to Ciara Belbeck and Cameron Evans (Alexandra), and a proud grandmother (“Gamma”) to Tison Belbeck-Rademeyer, Nash Evans, and Beck Evans.
After beginning her career in the airline industry in 1974, Joan dedicated over four decades to her work before retiring in 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Those who knew her describe her as a woman of remarkable energy — someone who transitioned from the bustle of international travel to the joys of local life with her grandchildren.
“Joan never missed a moment,” a close friend shared. “Whether it was a swimming lesson, a school play, or a Christmas concert, she was there — smiling, cheering, and making everyone feel special.”
Beyond her professional life, Joan was known for her handcrafted gifts — crocheted baby blankets, seasonal pillowcases, and colorful hats that often became treasured keepsakes. Her creativity was matched only by her community spirit. Friends recall how she could strike up a conversation with anyone, often while out shopping or attending local gatherings.
Her sudden passing has left a void in the lives of many who knew her warmth and generosity. Yet her influence — in the lives she shaped and the memories she crafted — endures.
A visitation will be held at Smith’s Funeral Home in Burlington on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a service in the chapel. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, a cause close to Joan’s heart.
As Burlington says goodbye, many remember her not only for what she made with her hands, but for what she gave with her heart — a lasting reminder that love, in all its forms, is the legacy we leave behind.
