Georgia, US State – Broadcaster and television personality Ryan Seacrest has announced the passing of his father, Gary Seacrest, in an emotional Instagram post shared on Friday, October 31. Gary, who was in his early eighties, died peacefully earlier this week after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that my loving father peacefully passed away earlier this week,” Seacrest, 50, wrote. “My mom, sister and I have peace knowing he is in a better place and free of any pain or suffering. We are heartbroken.”
Ryan described his father as “a devoted husband for 56 years, an incredible Papa,” adding, “Dad, you will live in our hearts forever. I love you.”
During Friday’s broadcast of his On Air With Ryan Seacrest radio show, the longtime host recalled his father’s final moments with vivid emotion. “He looked over at me — and the power in the contact — he said, ‘Take care of your mom,’” Ryan shared. “Then, literally a few seconds later, he closed his eyes and said, ‘I’ve got to go.’ He knew. He was at peace.”
Gary Seacrest is survived by his wife, Connie, their two children, Ryan and Meredith, and granddaughter Flora.
Earlier this year, Ryan revealed publicly that his father’s health had declined following years of treatment for prostate cancer. “It didn’t get better. It got worse and it spread,” he said in July. He also shared that his father’s condition deteriorated during last season’s American Idol, recalling how he received the call that Gary had been admitted to the ICU while hosting a live show.
Fans and friends flooded Seacrest’s post with condolences. Fellow American Idol judge Katy Perry wrote, “Sending you and your family all the love.” His radio cohost Tanya Rad added, “Such an incredible man. I’m so sorry, Ryan. All my love to you, Connie and Meredith.”
While Ryan Seacrest is best known for his tireless work ethic and public persona, his candid reflection on his father’s passing offered a rare glimpse into the private life of one of entertainment’s most recognizable figures. His openness has resonated deeply with fans navigating loss, reminding many of the universal bond between parent and child — and the peace that comes with a life well-lived.
