His first wife, Candace Kaniecki, confirmed to TMZ that Hurst passed away unexpectedly on Thursday in Los Angeles. The cause of death has not been determined at this time.
Hurst was scheduled to appear at Cooter’s Place in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on July 3. On Thursday morning, the popular Dukes of Hazzard museum announced on Facebook that, due to unforeseen circumstances, Rick would be unable to attend and that the event would be rescheduled.
Fans will remember Hurst as the affable cousin of Boss Hogg, a role he began playing in the late 1970s and reprised throughout the 1980s on the beloved CBS series. His warm, comedic presence helped make Deputy Cletus a fan favorite during the show’s long run.
