MANILA, Philippines: Filipino comedian and television personality Ate Gay, whose real name was Gil Aducal Morales, has died at the age of 55, prompting an outpouring of tributes from fans, fellow entertainers and members of the Philippine entertainment industry.

His family confirmed his death on Sunday, November 1, 2026, in a statement shared through his social media account. They said the entertainer passed away peacefully while surrounded by loved ones.

“After bravely fighting for his life, while surrounded by his family, our beloved Ate Gay has peacefully passed away,” the family announced.

Morales had faced serious health challenges following a diagnosis of Stage 4 mucoepidermoid carcinoma, a rare cancer commonly associated with the salivary glands, which he publicly disclosed in September 2025.

In October 2026, he was admitted to Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Muntinlupa after experiencing breathing difficulties. His family later disclosed that he suffered septic shock and acute respiratory failure associated with pneumonia. On October 29, he also suffered a stroke that affected the right side of his brain, leaving him in critical condition.

His death came weeks after an emotional living funeral held on October 15 at Forest Lake Memorial Parks in Biñan, Laguna. The gathering gave family members and friends an opportunity to celebrate his life and express their love while he was still alive.

Ate Gay became widely recognized for his comedy performances, musical talent and impersonation of legendary Filipino singer and actress Nora Aunor. His distinctive singing style and humorous song mashups helped establish his place in Philippine entertainment.

Following the announcement, fellow entertainers and public figures shared messages remembering his contribution to comedy and the joy he brought to audiences.

His family thanked everyone who offered prayers, financial assistance and support during his illness. Details of his wake and funeral arrangements are expected to be announced separately.
