The search for Leo Lindeman, 73, and his wife, Katherine Lindeman, 74, has taken a tragic turn after two bodies believed to belong to the missing Missouri couple were discovered in a wooded area near their rural home in Anderson.
The bodies were found on Sunday, November 1, 2026, approximately 400 to 500 yards from the couple’s property, according to information released by the McDonald County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities have not yet formally confirmed their identities, with identification expected following autopsies and official examination.
The discovery came more than six weeks after the couple reportedly disappeared from their home in southwest Missouri.
How the couple disappeared
Leo and Katherine were last believed to have been seen around September 16. They were officially reported missing on September 24 after failing to attend a planned weekly dinner with neighbours.
Their disappearance prompted an extensive search involving local law enforcement, volunteers and specialist search teams. Investigators also examined the couple’s property and collected evidence as they tried to establish what had happened.
The case attracted wider attention because the couple appeared to have left their home without their vehicles, phones and other personal belongings. Their small dog was also reported missing.
Bodies discovered on neighbouring property
According to Sheriff Rob Evenson, a property owner contacted the McDonald County Dispatch Center at approximately 4 p.m. on November 1 after discovering a deceased person near the 4500 block of East State Highway 76.
A responding deputy arrived and located a second deceased person nearby. A dog was also found alive close to one of the bodies.
Sheriff’s detectives and forensic personnel subsequently attended the scene to examine the area and collect evidence. The bodies were located in heavily wooded terrain adjacent to the Lindemans’ property.
Authorities have not publicly established how the individuals died. Investigators are awaiting formal identification and further examination to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Investigation continues
The discovery has raised further questions about what happened during the weeks the couple remained missing. Their family has been seeking answers since the disappearance was reported.
The survival of the dog found near the bodies has also drawn attention, particularly because the animal disappeared alongside the couple.
The McDonald County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation remains active. Officials have indicated that additional information will be released as it becomes available and can be confirmed.
For the Lindeman family, the discovery brings a painful development in a search that lasted more than six weeks. They are awaiting official identification and answers about the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Leo and Katherine.
