Timothy Vanbilliard Identified in Fatal Police-Involved Incident at South Whitehall Weis Market

SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP, Pa. — Authorities have identified the man who died following a police-involved incident outside a Lehigh Valley grocery store on Sunday as 45-year-old Timothy Vanbilliard of Emmaus.

The incident occurred at the Weis Markets location on Cedar Crest Boulevard in South Whitehall Township. While details remain limited, police confirmed that an encounter took place involving Vanbilliard and officers, after which he was transported to a nearby hospital. He later died from his injuries.

Officials have not released specifics about what led to the police response or what occurred during the encounter. The South Whitehall Township Police Department has only stated that an “incident” took place and that Vanbilliard’s death is now under investigation.

The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy on Tuesday, but the cause and manner of death have not yet been determined. According to the coroner, those findings are pending further investigation, including toxicology screening and microscopic examination, which could take several weeks to complete.

Vanbilliard’s death has drawn concern from the community as residents await more clarity on the circumstances. Law enforcement agencies have not indicated whether body camera footage exists or whether any officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, standard procedure in cases involving in-custody or police-related deaths.

At this time, no additional information has been made available about the events leading up to the incident. Officials say the investigation remains active.

Timothy Vanbilliard, described by neighbors as quiet and reserved, lived in Emmaus and had no known major criminal history. While authorities have not confirmed why he was at the store or whether he had any previous interaction with South Whitehall police, community members have expressed hopes for transparency as the inquiry progresses.

The Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office has not commented publicly on the matter.

As the investigation continues, both the South Whitehall Township Police and the coroner’s office urge the public to allow time for the full facts to emerge. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact local law enforcement.

Vanbilliard’s family has requested privacy as they grieve his loss. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
