Suspect Shot, 1 Dead After Crash and Standoff on I-480 in Brooklyn, Ohio

Brooklyn, OH – June 25, 2025 — A police pursuit in Parma Heights ended in tragedy Tuesday afternoon after a crash and armed standoff at the intersection of I-480 and Tiedeman Road in Brooklyn, Ohio. The incident left one person dead at the scene and the suspect fatally shot by police hours later.

According to a press release from the Brooklyn Police Department, officers were called to assist Parma Heights police around 10:51 a.m. after a Black Ford F-150 pickup truck fleeing police collided with two other vehicles. One of the victims involved in the crash was pronounced dead at the scene, and three others were injured and taken to nearby hospitals.

The driver of the F-150 was reportedly holding a gun to his head and had a history of suicide-by-cop threats, police said.

Crisis negotiators from Brooklyn police made several attempts to de-escalate the situation and persuade the man to surrender. After nearly four hours of standoff, the Southwest Enforcement Bureau’s tactical unit was deployed to manage the scene.

At approximately 2:50 p.m., the suspect exited the vehicle holding a firearm and was shot by a tactical officer. He was transported to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to Parma Heights police.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is now leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting, as required by protocol.

Traffic was heavily impacted throughout the day. Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) cameras showed a chaotic scene with multiple vehicles and emergency responders. Motorists experienced delays near mile markers 12 and 14, and the I-480 eastbound ramp to Tiedeman Road was reopened by 4:30 p.m., while the westbound ramp remained closed for further investigation.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin.

The incident highlights the continued challenges law enforcement faces in responding to mental health crises involving armed individuals. Support services are expected to be made available for affected families and first responders.
