Lagos, NigeriaA fully loaded Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle overturned on Friday inside the dedicated BRT lane at Iyana Ipaja, Lagos, leaving 10 passengers injured.

According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the incident occurred shortly after the bus departed from the BRT park at Iyana Ipaja. In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), LASTMA confirmed that the bus collided with the foot of an abandoned pedestrian bridge, located just beyond the Iyana Ipaja bridge. The impact caused the bus to tip over onto its side within the corridor.

Emergency responders, including LASTMA officials, arrived swiftly at the scene to assist passengers and manage traffic. All 10 injured individuals received immediate medical attention and were transported to nearby hospitals.

The accident caused a significant traffic bottleneck in the area, with recovery operations ongoing to clear the overturned vehicle and restore normal flow in the affected BRT lane.

Commuters and motorists in the Iyana Ipaja axis are advised to remain patient and adhere to traffic instructions as cleanup efforts continue.

Authorities have reiterated the importance of regular inspections of road infrastructure and proper clearance of abandoned structures to prevent future incidents.
