FRESNO, Calif. — A tragic late-night crash in Fresno County claimed the lives of a 14-year-old girl and a 21-year-old woman, while a 27-year-old man remains hospitalized with serious injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash occurred around 11 p.m. Tuesday on Belmont Avenue near Brawley Avenue, when a 2020 white Toyota Camry traveling eastbound at high speed reportedly ran a stop sign. Witnesses told investigators that the driver lost control, veering off the road before sideswiping a pole, plowing through a front yard and fence, and finally crashing into a trucking yard.
The 21-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The 14-year-old passenger and the injured man were rushed to Community Regional Medical Center, where the girl later succumbed to her injuries.
CHP officers confirmed that both the driver and front passenger were wearing seatbelts, but the rear passenger was not restrained. Authorities continue to investigate what caused the crash, including whether speed or other factors played a role.
Local officials are once again urging drivers to slow down and obey traffic signals—especially at night—reminding residents that even momentary lapses in judgment can have devastating consequences.
