COLUMBIA, Ky. — Kentucky State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that claimed the life of a 17-year-old driver Friday morning in Adair County.
According to preliminary information released by authorities, the crash occurred shortly before 10:30 a.m. CDT on KY 206 near Columbia. Investigators said the teenage driver was traveling westbound when her vehicle crossed the centerline and entered the eastbound lane, where it collided head-on with an oncoming truck.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported the teen to a local hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, she later succumbed to her injuries, police said.
Officials have not publicly released the victim’s identity pending notification of family members and in accordance with standard investigative procedures.
The driver of the truck was not injured in the collision, according to Kentucky State Police.
