Major I-75 Crash in Sarasota Causes 9-Mile Backup and 78-Minute Delay After Semi Crosses Median

SARASOTA, Fla. — Traffic delays are building rapidly on northbound I-75 this evening following a major crash involving a semi-cab that crossed the median into oncoming lanes.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the semi-cab veered across the guardrail and grassy median from southbound I-75 into the northbound side, triggering a significant response.

Debris from the crash struck another vehicle, causing damage. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

As of 5:45 p.m., three northbound lanes remain blocked, causing backups stretching more than nine miles and delays of up to 78 minutes. Southbound traffic is also slow for about three miles due to rubbernecking.

Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and expect extended travel times as crews continue clearing the scene.
