Rodeo star Spencer Wright and wife Kallie honor late 3 year old son Levi, after heartbreaking river accident in Utah.
Beaver County, Utah — Levi Wright, the 3-year-old son of professional rodeo cowboy Spencer Wright and his wife, Kallie, who died on June 2, 2024. His death followed a tragic accident in May, when he drove his toy tractor into a swollen creek that runs through the family’s rural Utah property.
In her first public reflections since their son’s passing, Kallie Wright shared a series of emotional social media posts filled with grief, love, and painful hindsight. “As he drove off, I ran back in the house,” she wrote. “That’s a decision that will haunt me for the rest of my life.”
The fatal accident happened after Levi asked his mother if he could ride his toy tractor outside — something he had done countless times before. On this day, however, the usually shallow creek running between their house and his grandparents’ had risen unexpectedly due to seasonal water flow.
“There is a creek that runs through our 24-acre property… Water only runs through for a short time during the year and can change overnight,” Kallie explained in one Facebook post, alongside a video showing how the family typically crossed the area safely on horseback.
Despite warning Levi not to drive near the creek, tragedy struck in a matter of moments. Authorities later reported that Levi had gone missing after driving toward the creek. Emergency responders quickly located him and administered life-saving care before transporting him to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
For nearly two weeks, Levi remained on life support. His parents offered frequent updates, hoping for signs of recovery. “We prayed those things were him defying odds and proving to us that he wanted to stay here,” Kallie wrote, “but we see now he wanted to give us time to find peace with letting him go.”
On June 2, 2024, the Wright family made the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye. Kallie held her son in her arms as he passed. “You stayed with us 17 minutes,” she shared in a post one year later. “As you left, an overwhelming feeling came over me, and I knew we had done right by you.”
The loss of Levi Wright has rippled far beyond Beaver County. Spencer and Kallie, who are also parents to daughters Steeley and Brae Milo, are working to turn their grief into purpose. The couple founded The Levi Wright Foundation, dedicated to helping families facing traumatic loss and pediatric emergencies. The foundation is planning a charity barrel race in Levi’s honor.
Since Levi’s passing, Kallie has used her platform not only to remember her son but also to encourage other parents to be present and intentional.
“Don’t just take your kids to do fun things — do those fun things with them,” she wrote. “Get in the pool, get on the swing, go down the slide, run through the sprinklers… You get the idea.”
She also opened up about the pressure to wait for the “perfect” moment to capture memories with professional photos. “I wanted to wait until I lost the baby weight… and now the only really good pics I have are from Brae’s newborn session.”
Her reflections serve as both a tribute and a cautionary tale. “Everything — and I mean everything — is fixable and replaceable,” she said, “so don’t make mountains out of molehills.”
Kallie’s grief is raw and honest. “I am not a perfect mom, but I am a good mom. My little boy loved me with all he had. Never say never, because it only takes seconds — and it can happen to you too.”
Family friend Mindy Sue Clark confirmed Levi’s death on June 3. The Beaver County Sheriff’s Office released a statement earlier that the child had gone missing and was found shortly after a 911 call was placed.
Through her candid posts, Kallie has reminded thousands that accidents can happen even in familiar, seemingly safe places — and that love, not perfection, defines parenthood.
“Thanks for being my adventure buddy, Levi, and for teaching me so much,” she wrote. “I miss and love you.”
