Andrew Moor Obituary, Death: TORONTOAndrew Moor, the long-serving president and CEO of EQB Inc., who transformed the company into Canada’s seventh-largest bank and championed open banking, has died unexpectedly at age 65.

EQB confirmed his death on Tuesday, calling it a “tragic loss” and praising Moor as a visionary leader whose two-decade tenure helped redefine the country’s financial landscape.

“Andrew was a fierce advocate for change and innovation in banking that benefits all Canadians,” said EQB board chair Vincenza Sera. “His leadership and humanity shaped our company and culture.”

Moor took the helm at EQB in 2007, when it had just over 100 employees and $4.4 billion in assets. Under his guidance, the firm evolved into EQ Bank and Equitable Bank, managing over $134 billion in assets with nearly 2,000 staff nationwide.

He was also the longest-serving bank CEO in Canada at the time of his death.

A relentless advocate for open banking in Canada, Moor pushed for greater consumer choice and fintech collaboration. Leaders across the financial sector expressed grief and admiration.

“We lost a champion,” said Wealthsimple CEO Michael Katchen. “Andrew was unafraid to challenge the status quo and was always driven by purpose.”

Borrowell CEO Andrew Graham called him “one of Canada’s foremost champions for financial innovation,” while financier Alex Haditaghi remembered him as “principled, brilliant, and deeply human.”

Moor’s passing comes despite long-standing succession planning. Marlene Lenarduzzi, EQB’s Chief Risk Officer, will serve as interim CEO.

Beyond business, Moor was remembered as a devoted husband, father, and community advocate.

EQB extended its condolences to the Moor family, vowing to carry forward his legacy of integrity, innovation, and service.
