Renault is expanding the appeal of its Duster sport utility vehicle with a strong-hybrid powertrain designed to combine everyday practicality with improved fuel efficiency. The 2026 Renault Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 has launched in India, adding an electrified option to the latest generation of the popular SUV.
The hybrid model uses a 1.8-litre petrol engine paired with two electric motors and a 1.4-kilowatt-hour battery. Together, the system produces a claimed 160 horsepower, while a multi-mode automatic transmission manages power delivery. Renault says the vehicle can operate in electric mode for up to 80% of city driving under specified conditions.
Fuel economy is a central selling point. Renault lists an ARAI-certified figure of 29 kilometres per litre for the Indian-market model. Actual consumption can vary depending on traffic, driving habits, weather, road conditions and vehicle load. Buyers should therefore treat the official figure as a test-cycle result rather than a guarantee of everyday mileage.
In India, introductory prices start at ₹16.99 lakh for the Evolution trim and reach ₹19.49 lakh for the top-end Emotion version, according to automotive publication Autocar India. Bookings have opened, with deliveries scheduled to begin in November 2026. Prices and availability may change.
Equipment varies by trim, but reported features include ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof and dual-zone climate control. These additions position the hybrid as an option for drivers seeking a more premium daily-driving experience without moving to a larger SUV.
The Duster Hybrid’s appeal will ultimately depend on its real-world efficiency, comfort, ownership costs and local servicing support. Buyers should also confirm warranty coverage, battery terms and the exact specifications offered in their country before making a purchase.
With its combination of petrol power and electric assistance, the Renault Duster Hybrid offers an alternative for motorists who want better fuel economy while retaining the flexibility of a conventional family SUV.
