Rev. David Noone of Fayetteville, NC Death, Obituary – The Catholic community is mourning the loss of Rev. David Noone, who passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, at the age of 83. A devoted and compassionate priest, Fr. David spent nearly 60 years in ministry, touching countless lives with his faith, humility, and sense of humor.
Born on May 20, 1942, in Gloversville, New York, to John and Frances Noone, David grew up in a spiritually rich home filled with laughter and service. Inspired by a local parish priest, he felt called to the priesthood early and followed that path to Rome, where he was ordained on December 17, 1966, at the Altar of the Chair in St. Peter’s Basilica—a moment he would describe as deeply humbling.
Throughout his extensive ministry, Fr. David Noone served in roles ranging from parish priest and hospital chaplain to campus minister, ministering across the U.S. and beyond. His work in Haiti, where he helped found and support a secondary school, stands as a lasting testament to his commitment to education and social justice.
In retirement, he continued to serve as a missionary priest through Unbound, a global nonprofit supporting children and elders living in poverty. His parish appeals and thoughtful homilies—rich in both theological insight and heartfelt storytelling—inspired action and compassion in congregations across the country.
Outside his priestly duties, Fr. David lived life fully. He was an avid skier, tennis player, music lover, and passionate traveler. Of all the places he visited, New Zealand held a special place in his heart.
Reflecting on his calling, he once said:
“Ministry isn’t simply what a priest does; it’s what God does for others through him—and for him through others.”
These words capture the core of his life: one of service, grace, and shared humanity.
Fr. David is remembered not only for his ministry but for his gentle presence, wisdom, and unwavering faith. He is survived by many friends and spiritual companions, including Hideki Morooka, whose friendship brought joy and companionship in Fr. David’s later years.
