The Simpsons Season 36 Finale: Marge Simpson’s Shocking Death

In a dramatic twist, The Simpsons Season 36 finale ends with the apparent death of Marge Simpson, marking one of the show’s most emotional moments yet.

Titled “Estranger Things,” the episode blends satire and sincerity in a flash-forward set 35 years into the future. It opens with a classic scene: Marge leaves Homer in charge of the kids, warning him not to let them watch TV or eat Twinkies. Naturally, he does both.

Bart and Lisa stumble upon The Itchy & Scratchy Show and become obsessed. Their childhood bond begins to fracture over time, as they grow into very different people. Despite Marge’s efforts to keep them close, the future reveals a painful truth—her fears were justified.

In this vision of tomorrow, Marge has died. Lisa is now commissioner of the WNBA, while Bart lives in disarray. When Lisa returns to Springfield, she discovers Homer is caught in a fraudulent retirement scam. But the most emotional moment comes when she finds a video will from Marge.

In the heartfelt message, Marge expresses her love for the family and her hope they’ll reunite one day in the afterlife. Inspired, Lisa and Bart team up to rescue Homer in a caper modeled after Itchy & Scratchy—the very cartoon that once drove them apart.

The finale ends on a hopeful note: the Simpson family sits together watching a reboot of Itchy & Scratchy. Above them, Marge smiles from Heaven, joking that she might finally be free to remarry.

Marge Simpson’s death, while not confirmed as permanent, adds rare emotional weight to the series. With few character deaths over the past 30 seasons, this bold finale has quickly become one of the most discussed chapters in recent Simpsons history.
