Canonsburg, PA — The wrestling community is mourning the loss of Liz Schilinski-Spotti, a passionate supporter, loving friend, and cherished member of the greater Pennsylvania martial arts and wrestling circles. Liz passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering enthusiasm, heartfelt connections, and a deep love for the sport and the people within it.
Originally from Slovan and a longtime resident of Canonsburg, Liz’s life was defined by joy, compassion, and a tireless devotion to the things and people she loved. Described by many as wrestling’s biggest fan, Liz was a fixture at wrestling events big and small—from local meets to NCAA tournaments—always bringing a smile, a cheer, and unmatched spirit to the stands.
Patrick Sampson, a close friend and fellow community member, shared, “We are heartbroken to hear the passing of our dear friend Liz Schilinski-Spotti. Liz was full of life, joy, and compassion, and her presence brought light wherever she went.”
Among those who felt Liz’s love most deeply was young wrestler Maddox, whom she supported with the kind of devotion that transcends the typical fan-athlete bond. Liz was more than a cheerleader for Maddox; she was a constant source of love and encouragement. Whether at Ohio State duals or national tournaments, there was always a seat saved for Liz—because she was always there.
Her presence extended far beyond the mat. Each year, Liz made a point to send Maddox special Valentine’s Day gifts, small gestures that reflected her big heart. “She made him feel seen, valued, and truly special,” Sampson said. “Her friendship meant the world to us, and the memories she created with Maddox will be held close to our hearts forever.”
Liz’s vibrant personality and generous spirit touched many lives, making her passing a profound loss not just to friends and family, but to the entire wrestling and martial arts communities. Her memory will live on in the cheers she gave, the joy she spread, and the hearts she filled.
As the community comes together to honor Liz’s memory, her legacy serves as a reminder of the lasting impact one person’s love and presence can have.
