CLEARWATER, FL — Julian McMahon, the acclaimed Australian actor best known for his roles in Charmed, Nip/Tuck, and Fantastic Four, has died at the age of 56. His wife, Kelly Paniagua, confirmed that McMahon passed away peacefully on July 2 in Clearwater, Florida, following a private battle with cancer.
According to a Cremation Approval Summary Report from the Pinellas County Medical Examiner’s Office, McMahon’s official cause of death was lung metastasis resulting from head and neck metastatic cancer. The manner of death has been ruled as natural, and his remains were cremated shortly after.
McMahon, the only son of former Australian Prime Minister Sir William McMahon, rose to international fame for his portrayal of Dr. Christian Troy on Ryan Murphy’s Emmy-winning series Nip/Tuck (2003–2010). He also starred as Cole Turner in the cult-favorite series Charmed, and as the villain Doctor Doom in Fantastic Four (2005), gaining a loyal global fanbase across film and television.
Wife Kelly Paniagua’s Tribute
In a heartfelt statement shared with Deadline, Paniagua remembered her husband as someone who “loved life” and who made it his mission to bring happiness to others.
“Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible,” she wrote.
She also asked for privacy on behalf of the family:
“We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life.”

Born in Sydney in 1968, McMahon began his career on Home and Away before transitioning to American TV and film. He received a Golden Globe nomination for his complex role in Nip/Tuck, and later went on to star in Profiler, Runaways, and numerous film roles across action and drama genres.
McMahon’s final public appearance was at the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival in Austin, Texas, where he appeared in support of the Stan original movie The Surfer, in which he co-starred alongside Nicolas Cage. The streaming service posted a tribute following his death:
