Loren Ruch Obituary, Los Angeles, CA: HGTV Executive Passed Away at 55 of Leukemia

LOS ANGELES, CA — Loren Ruch, an award-winning television executive best known for shaping HGTV’s most iconic lifestyle and renovation shows, died peacefully on June 12, 2025, at the age of 55. He passed away surrounded by his loving husband and close friends following a courageous fight with acute myeloid leukemia.

A creative powerhouse and five-time Emmy Award winner, Loren was more than a visionary in the entertainment industry—he was the emotional center of every room he entered. Whether dancing into meetings or offering steady support in moments of crisis, Loren was a rare blend of joy, loyalty, and generosity.

As Head of Home Content for Warner Bros. Discovery, Loren led the HGTV brand with unmatched vision and authenticity. His leadership helped launch fan-favorite series like Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge, My Lottery Dream Home, Battle on the Beach, Brother vs. Brother, and the Emmy-nominated A Very Brady Renovation. Prior to that, Loren served as Group SVP of Production & Development at both Discovery, Inc. and Scripps Networks Interactive, helping define the voice of home and lifestyle television for a generation of viewers.

Earlier in his career, Loren made his mark as Senior Producer of Good Day LA, earning five Emmy Awards and propelling the show to the top of the Los Angeles ratings. His deep understanding of audience connection and creative storytelling became hallmarks of his work.

But Loren Ruch’s legacy transcends TV screens. He was a trusted mentor, a fierce advocate for inclusion, and a beacon of light within his professional and personal communities. He served on the board of Live Out Loud, supporting LGBTQ+ youth, and frequently used his platform to elevate underrepresented voices in media.

Loren shared a beautiful, globe-spanning 27-year partnership with his husband, David Salas. Their relationship—filled with adventure, humor, and deep devotion—was an inspiration to all who witnessed it. Loren also maintained strong bonds with his family, especially his parents and brother.

He is survived by David; his mother, Dolly Norris (Will); father, Larry Ruch (Kuniko); and brother, Geoffrey Ruch.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In honor of Loren’s passion for helping others, donations may be made to the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation or Be the Match, both causes close to his heart.

Loren Ruch’s legacy lives on in the laughter he sparked, the careers he shaped, and the countless lives he touched. His light, creativity, and kindness will continue to shine across the television landscape—and far beyond.
