Accident: Woman Dies After Being Hit by Road Sweeper in Batley as Driver Arrested

 

A woman in her 70s has tragically died after being struck by a road sweeper in Batley, prompting a police investigation and the arrest of a man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The incident occurred at around 9:55am on Tuesday, June 24, on Commercial Street in Batley town centre. Emergency services attended the scene, but the woman was sadly pronounced dead at the location.

A man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.

Detective Sergeant Nina Roper, of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said:

“A woman has sadly lost her life, and an investigation is under way to establish the circumstances of what has taken place.

We have spoken to a number of witnesses at the scene but would urge anyone else who saw any part of this incident, or the events leading up to it, to please get in touch.

Motorists who were in the area are also asked to check their dashcams for any potentially relevant footage.”
