Conner Smith fatal car accident Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Country singer Conner Smith has issued a public statement addressing his involvement in a fatal vehicle accident that occurred on June 8, when his truck struck and killed 77-year-old Dorothy Dobbins as she crossed a street in Nashville.

In an Instagram post shared on July 11, the 24-year-old rising star behind Creek Will Rise expressed heartbreak and remorse over the incident that claimed Dobbins’ life.

“Four weeks ago, I was involved in a tragic vehicle accident that resulted in the loss of a life,” Smith wrote. “Not a day has gone by that I haven’t grieved, prayed, and mourned for Ms. Dobbins and her family.”

Smith described the emotional toll the tragedy has taken on him, adding, “My heart is broken in a way I’ve never experienced, and I still struggle to fully process the weight of it all.”

Grief, Faith, and Time Away From the Stage

In the wake of the accident, Smith canceled multiple performances in Ohio, citing the need for time and space to grieve and reflect.

“I have always found that making music and playing shows is a place of healing for me,” he explained, “but for this moment, it was important for me to take time away.”

Smith also spoke about leaning heavily on his Christian faith during this time of mourning:

“I’m thankful to serve a God who is near to the brokenhearted, and I have leaned on Him every step of the way. Through tragedy, I have learned that God is more faithful than I could have ever known before.”

Legal Update and Ongoing Cooperation with Authorities

According to a press release issued by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) on June 9, Smith showed “no signs of impairment” at the scene. However, failure to yield the right of way to the pedestrian was listed as the preliminary contributing factor in the collision.

On July 10, Smith was issued a misdemeanor state citation, according to his attorney, Worrick G. Robinson IV.

“Conner is incredibly grateful to the MNPD for their time and efforts to carefully investigate this tragic accident and has continued to cooperate at all times,” Robinson said in a statement. “His thoughts remain with Ms. Dobbins’ family, and he remains committed to honoring her memory with compassion by supporting efforts to improve pedestrian safety and help prevent future tragedies.”

A Community Mourns a Life Lost

Dorothy Dobbins, described by loved ones as a caring neighbor and devoted grandmother, is being remembered by her Nashville community for her kindness and steady presence. As the investigation continues and healing begins, her family asks for privacy.

Smith’s heartfelt public message has sparked a wave of responses from fans and fellow musicians, many offering prayers for both the Dobbins family and the artist navigating this painful chapter.
