Airboat Operator, 32, New Jersey Man Life was Claim By Airboat Collision in Everglades

A collision between two airboats in the Florida Everglades left one man dead on Friday evening, October 2, 2026. The incident occurred around 6:20 p.m. in the wetlands of the Francis S. Taylor Wildlife Management Area in western Broward County, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

One airboat carried an operator and a single passenger; the other, operated by 32-year-old Alessandro Borgo of New Jersey, had two passengers aboard. Borgo was airlifted to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. No other individuals were hurt, FWC reported. The remote location required helicopter assistance from Broward Sheriff’s Office crews to reach the scene and transport the injured.

Airboats, specialized flat-bottomed vessels propelled by aircraft-style engines and propellers, are commonly used for navigating the shallow, vegetation-filled waters of the Everglades. They provide essential access for recreation, research, and wildlife management but operate in challenging environments where visibility and terrain can pose risks.

The FWC is leading the ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision and has expressed condolences to Borgo’s family and friends. Authorities urge airboat operators to maintain heightened awareness, follow all boating safety regulations, and exercise caution in remote wetland areas. Further details will be released as the inquiry progresses.
