Libyan Pilgrim Amer al Mahdi Mansour al Gaddafi Alive and Well After False Death Rumors During Hajj 2025
Reports that Libyan pilgrim Amer al Mahdi Mansour al Gaddafi died while performing Tawaf at the Holy Kaaba in Makkah during Hajj 2025 have been confirmed false. The viral claim, which spread quickly on social media, suggested he passed away inside the Grand Mosque during one of Islam’s most sacred rituals. A fact-check has since debunked the rumor, and Gaddafi himself has publicly confirmed that he is alive, healthy, and spiritually fulfilled after completing Hajj.
Speaking to Arabic news outlet Zehra, Amer al Gaddafi said, “By the grace of Allah, I have completed Hajj and am in good health. The reports of my death are completely false.”
A Miraculous Journey to Makkah
Gaddafi’s journey to the holy city has already captured public attention due to a series of dramatic events that preceded his arrival. Initially, he was denied boarding on a Hajj flight operated by Afriqiyah Airways, reportedly due to unspecified issues at immigration.
As Gaddafi remained at the airport—unwilling to turn back—fate appeared to intervene. The flight he was barred from suffered a technical failure midair, forcing an emergency return. After the aircraft was repaired and cleared for takeoff once again, it experienced yet another mechanical fault, grounding it a second time.
After the second emergency landing, the flight’s captain is said to have personally intervened and insisted on bringing Amer al Gaddafi aboard. Finally, after two failed attempts, he flew to Saudi Arabia and performed Hajj, including standing on the Plains of Arafat on June 5, 2025.
Social Media and the Dangers of Misinformation
Despite the spiritually uplifting turn in Gaddafi’s story, unfounded claims about his death quickly spread online. Many posts falsely stated that he had collapsed and died while performing Tawaf, leading to widespread confusion and concern.
In response, Arabic media and fact-checking outlets verified that the reports were untrue. Amer al Gaddafi’s direct interview put the rumors to rest, reminding audiences of the importance of verifying facts, particularly during events as sensitive as Hajj.
A Story of Resilience and Divine Timing
For many observers, Gaddafi’s Hajj story symbolizes patience, perseverance, and divine intervention. His refusal to give up after being denied boarding—and the two coincidental plane malfunctions—has been described by some as a “miracle of faith.”
“This was a test of patience, and I am grateful to have reached Makkah,” Gaddafi said. “Hajj is not only a journey of the body but of the heart and spirit.”
A Reminder of the Human Experience in Hajj
Gaddafi’s story is a poignant example of how each pilgrim’s path to Hajj carries its own challenges and blessings. His experience—initially marred by setbacks—turned into one of the most talked-about journeys of Hajj 2025, not because of celebrity or tragedy, but because of unwavering faith, humility, and divine timing.
As Hajj concludes, his experience stands as a reminder that while millions gather in unity, the personal journeys of pilgrims continue to inspire and teach us far beyond the rituals themselves.
