JAMSHEDPUR, INDIA — Four Class 12 students were killed in a road accident on Marine Drive Road in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, early Thursday, September 24, 2026, after the car they were travelling in collided with a stationary truck.
Police identified the victims as 18-year-old Trisha Singh, daughter of Jharkhand Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Dipika Pandey Singh, along with Sarthak Agarwal, Naman Gupta and Vanshika Khandelwal. The four students, aged between 17 and 18, attended Carmel Junior College in Jamshedpur.
What happened on Marine Drive
The crash occurred in the early hours, with reports placing the time between about 2 a.m. and 3:30 a.m., near Domuhani in the Sonari police station area. Police said the car struck the rear of a truck that had been left stationary after breaking down.
The collision severely damaged the car and trapped the occupants. Police and rescue personnel used cutting equipment, including a gas cutter, to remove the victims from the wreckage. Their bodies were subsequently taken for post-mortem examinations at MGM Medical College and Hospital.
Investigation continues
Images from the scene showed the truck positioned close to the divider, with reports noting a small branch behind it as a warning marker. Questions about how the stationary vehicle was marked and the circumstances surrounding the collision remain part of the broader investigation. Police have not announced a final determination of the cause.
The deaths prompted condolences from Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar. The tragedy has also renewed attention in news coverage on the risks posed by disabled or stationary vehicles on busy roads.
