Born in Metairie, Louisiana, Janessa was a graduate of Grace King High School. Her professional journey spanned celebrated institutions including the Pacific Northwest Ballet and Cincinnati Ballet. She later contributed to the New Orleans Ballet Theatre (NOBT) as a trainee and Second Company member, while also working at Carmel’s Dance Wear in Metairie. At the time of her passing, she was living in Carmel, Indiana.
Touchet’s talent was described by peers as otherworldly—effortlessly technical, emotionally authentic, and deeply musical. She portrayed major roles like Juliet, Cinderella, the Sugar Plum Fairy, and the Firebird with rare intensity and grace.

Her performance in Adam Hougland’s Firebird, in which she tackled three major roles in a single series, stands as a testament to her strength, versatility, and dedication. Yet those who knew her best say her kindness, humility, and encouragement made just as lasting an impression.
“She had power beyond what is human,” a colleague remembered. “But what stood out most was her generous spirit and the way she made others feel seen and supported.”
One photo—capturing Janessa smiling, calm, and full of light—has surfaced as a favorite among those remembering her. “I don’t think I ever saw her happier than in that moment,” shared a close friend.
Janessa Touchet (1982–2025) was more than a dancer; she was an artist, a mentor, and a beacon of grace. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who witnessed her brilliance and in every dancer she inspired.
