OREM, Utah — Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, died on September 10, 2025, after being shot while addressing a crowd at Utah Valley University. He was 31.
The news, confirmed by Hansen Mortuaries in Phoenix, Arizona, sent shockwaves through political circles across the United States. Kirk, who rose to national prominence as a leading voice among right-leaning young Americans, had built a reputation for his passionate advocacy, entrepreneurial drive, and ability to mobilize a new generation of conservative voters.
Born Charles James Kirk on October 14, 1993, in Arlington Heights, Illinois, he attended Wheeling High School and briefly studied at Harper College before leaving to pursue activism full-time. In 2012, at just 18 years old, he co-founded Turning Point USA, transforming it from a grassroots campus effort into one of the most visible and well-funded conservative organizations in the country.
Kirk’s influence extended beyond campus activism. He became a familiar media figure, hosting The Charlie Kirk Show, speaking at major conservative gatherings such as CPAC and the Republican National Convention, and publishing several books including The MAGA Doctrine (2020) and Right Wing Revolution (2024).
A close ally of former President Donald Trump, Kirk was known for blending political strategy with faith-based messaging, often emphasizing the intersection of Christianity and civic engagement. His supporters praised his ability to connect with young audiences and challenge mainstream narratives, while critics questioned his confrontational style and polarizing rhetoric.
“Charlie was a tireless advocate for his beliefs and a mentor to thousands of young conservatives,” said a Turning Point USA spokesperson in a statement. “His passion for the future of America will continue through the movement he built.”
Kirk’s death has sparked widespread reaction across the political spectrum. Many conservative leaders expressed grief and called for unity, while others urged restraint and reflection amid heightened political tensions.
He is survived by his wife, Erika Frantzve, and their two young children.
As the investigation continues in Utah, Kirk’s passing marks a pivotal moment in the modern conservative movement — the loss of a figure who, for better or worse, helped shape the voice of a generation.
