Dylan Pavelek, a Marysville, MI Native Dies: MSU and Hockey Community Mourns Player

Marysville, Michigan – The hockey community in Michigan is mourning the loss of former collegiate athlete Dylan Pavelek, a onetime standout for Michigan State University whose dedication to the sport left a lasting impression on teammates and fans.

Pavelek, who grew up in Marysville, played four seasons with the Spartans men’s hockey program from 2015 to 2018. The university’s hockey program extended condolences to his family, remembering him as a hardworking athlete and valued member of the team.

During his time with the Spartans, Pavelek appeared in multiple seasons of competition and contributed both offensively and defensively. In the 2016–17 season, he recorded two goals and two assists across 22 games, the most appearances in a single season during his collegiate career. As a senior in 2017–18, injuries limited him to seven games, though he still managed a career-best two assists in a 6–0 victory against Lake Superior State Lakers men’s ice hockey.

Before college, Pavelek competed with the U.S. National Team Development Program and represented the United States at the 2014 IIHF Under-18 World Championship in Finland, an experience that helped shape his path in elite youth hockey.

Friends and former teammates describe Pavelek as someone who brought resilience and positivity to the locker room. “Dylan was the type of teammate who always pushed you to work harder,” one former teammate shared. “He loved the game and the people around it.”

Pavelek’s journey through youth hockey, international competition, and NCAA athletics reflects the demanding path many athletes take in pursuit of the sport they love. For many in Michigan’s tight-knit hockey community, his passing is being felt deeply as tributes continue to surface from former coaches, classmates, and fans who remember his commitment to the game and the friendships built along the way.
