Julian McMahon Obituary, Australian – Australian actor Julian McMahon has died at the age of 56 following a private battle with cancer, his wife Kelly McMahon confirmed in a statement.
“I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer,” she shared with Deadline. “We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life.”
Born into one of Australia’s most prominent political families, McMahon was the son of former Prime Minister Sir William “Billy” McMahon and socialite Lady Sonia McMahon. Despite his high-profile lineage, he built a career that was entirely his own, becoming one of Australia’s most recognizable actors and enjoying international success over three decades.
McMahon first rose to fame in the early 1990s with his breakout role on Home and Away, capturing attention with his charisma and screen presence. He later achieved global acclaim as the devilishly charming Cole Turner on the supernatural hit Charmed. His most iconic television role came as the ambitious and morally complex plastic surgeon Dr. Christian Troy on Nip/Tuck, a performance that earned him critical praise and a loyal following.
On the big screen, McMahon starred as Victor Von Doom in the Fantastic Four film franchise, further cementing his reputation as a versatile performer who moved seamlessly between soap opera fame and Hollywood blockbusters.
Beyond his acting career, McMahon was known for his laid-back charm and his rare ability to balance celebrity with a fiercely protected personal life. Friends and colleagues often described him as warm, thoughtful, and quietly generous.
He is survived by his wife, Kelly, and his daughter, Madison.
His family has requested privacy as they grieve and encouraged those who loved his work to honor his memory by continuing to “find joy in life.”
Rest in peace, Julian McMahon
